Compliance and Tax Associate

Reports To: SVP, Director of Operations and Risk Manager
Job Status: Exempt
Work Hours: M – F; 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Position Summary:
The Compliance and Tax Associate is responsible for assisting the SVP, Director of Operations and Risk Management with oversight of the bank’s regulatory requirements. This position will also coordinate all tax documents and tax reporting with the vendors and Wealth Advisors as well as review the quarterly tax reports for accurate reporting on all client tax forms.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Works closely with the tax vendor researching and reviewing items on the quarterly tax reports for accurate and complete client tax reporting (1099’s, 5498’s,1041’s)
2. Oversees Administrative and Investment Review compliance with Regulation 9 by utilizing the Compliance Services software
3. Responsible for Regulation R reconciliation and reporting
4. Responsible for filings with the SEI such as 13-F and SEC N-PX (Proxydisclosure)
5. Secretary of the ITAC (Investment Trust and Administrative Committee) in addition to preparing reports to be presented to the Trust Committee
6. Review the bi-weekly FinCEN list to insure no clients, beneficiaries, etc. are on the list
7. Responsible for the TotalWealth online access Compliance
8. Maintain calendar for tracking items requiring annual requirements (safe deposit box annual audit, annual privacy notice mailings, etc.)
9. Attend monthly Regulatory Calls and periodically check FFIEC, FDIC, OCC, etc. websites for new regulations or updated regulations which apply to the bank
10. Responsible for Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Customer Information Program, etc. compliance and annual training
11. Responsible for the BVS training system; coordination, deployment and report prep for management
Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree specializing in Accounting, Finance, Business, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
2. Six (6) to eight (8) years of experience in compliance, operations or related financial services.

1. Knowledge of investments and trust operations
2. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
3. Self-motivated, with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
4. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work
5. Superior communication skills, both verbal and written
6. Team orientation and ability to work with executives, managers, team members, clients and vendors in a collegial setting, to achieve individual and mutual goals in a rapidly transforming organization
7. MS Office skills essential – Excel, Word, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint.
8. Familiarization with Trust accounting systems.

Position: Wealth Advisor
Legacy Trust, a private investment and wealth management firm located in downtown Grand Rapids, has a great opportunity for a motivated individual to join our team as a Wealth Advisor.
Position Summary
The Wealth Advisor will serve as the primary financial advisor providing individualized solutions to high net-worth clients in an effort to preserve and deepen Legacy Trust’s valued client relationships. The Wealth Advisor will develop wealth plans that address retirement strategies, risk management, preservation of wealth, accumulation, asset allocation, and wealth transfer strategies.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Applies advanced knowledge of financial investments, federal and state taxes, services, and
strategies to provide proactive holistic advance and financial planning regarding complex financial
issues impacting the affluent market. Develops rapport with diverse range of personalities and
effectively incorporates wealth planning techniques.
2. Collaborates with a customized team of specialists to deliver high-quality client service.
3. Ensures service standards and metrics are met based on client needs, segmentation, asset
allocation, and risk management.
4. Partners and leverages internal and external service providers to optimize effectiveness and
efficiency.
5. Provide Trustee services when Legacy Trust is named as trustee.
Client Relationship Responsibilities
1. Conducts comprehensive reviews to analyze financial data and provide recommendations for
modifications based on client’s risk tolerance, goals, objectives and individual preferences. Provides
comprehensive financial planning and consultations.
2. Coordinates client relationship to ensure the Legacy Trust client experience is delivered.
3. Coordinates and collaborates with other advisors of clients.
4. Resolves problems as trusted advisor for client issues.
5. Provides the client with current trends and commands a thorough knowledge of investment products, financial planning, taxes and market dynamics.
6. Develops and executes an annual account servicing plan appropriate for the service standards,
including conducting periodic reviews and leveraging the appropriate specialist to ensure client’s
needs are being met.
Business Development Responsibilities
1. Prospects for clients in a New Business Development capacity by sourcing and building own pipeline of clients and opportunities.
2. Demonstrates highly developed sales, client contact and relationship management skills.
3. Earns referrals from clients, 3rd party advisors (e.g. Attorney, accountant), and other Centers of Influence.
4. Existing book of business is welcomed but not required.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree specializing in Finance or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree or professional certification required.
2. Five (5) or more years of experience in high net-worth client service and business development.
3. CFP, CTFA, CPA, JD or comparable background is preferred.
4. Is proficient and understands income, gift, estate, generation and fiduciary taxes

2. Market focused and results driven with proven track record in revenue growth operating in highly competitive market.

6. Ability to travel for events and meetings approximately 25% of the time.
