The Broadway Bar & Grill is a small restaurant located, in what appears to be an old house, on the corner of Broadway & 6th Street near downtown Grand Rapids. From the outside, this place does not look like much but when you walk in, the atmosphere and character of the bar will truly blow you away. The Broadway Bar has hundreds, if not thousands of memorabilia items that would take a few days to go through, from sports autographs to signed pictures of Marilyn Monroe. One thing that is clear about Broadway Bar is that they love holidays, specifically decorating for any given holiday. I visited the establishment in late February and they already had St. Patrick’s Day decorations hanging from the ceilings and special tablecloths laid out on every table. The owner, Cindy Berrington, purchased the bar about 20 years ago with her late father John Harvath. Since that time, Cindy has managed to create a neighborhood friendly bar with excellent food and excellent people.
One other side-note about the Broadway Bar & Grill is that they have delicious hamburgers! The burger menu consists of any type of burger you can think of, but in the spirit of the blog I had to try the “Broadway Bar Burger”. This burger was enormous! The burger served deluxe consisted of two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, mayo, and mustard all between two slices of Texas toast. I would recommend the Broadway Bar to anyone who is looking for a unique location to take their family or even business colleagues because the burgers are cooked to perfection and the atmosphere of the bar is something that you won’t soon forget. When I visited again recently, I was told that every Thursday Cindy serves up a homemade dinner that will not leave you hungry, and in the summer her specialty is often barbecue. I am already looking forward to stopping in and trying some ribs once this weather finally turns the corner!
